Point and Shoot Process Validation for 4-up
Circuit Boards
Overview
Four copies of the same circuit are produced on the same circuit
board. Complete testing on all good circuits while avoiding production
steps on a circuit which has already failed a previous step. (Each
copy of the circuit carries its own barcode).
Issues
Four copies of the same circuit are produced on the same circuit
board. The circuits are separated late in the production process.
When a circuit fails a production test either all 4 copies must
be failed or each circuit must be individually tracked. Unfortunately
this would normally require 4 separate scanners and control circuitry
for each.
AIDEA’s solution
Track each instance of a circuit separately. The AIDEA solution
uses a premium Microscan scanner and a Versa-Check. The Versa-Check
"Points" the beam at each circuit in succession so the
exact circuit under test is known. Data is sent to a process server
for confirmation. The Versa-Check forwards pass information to the
process PLC (provided by the customer in this case) one bit at a
time using I/O. The PLC skips testing on any circuit already failed.
